Is Netflix losing its Mobile Games grip?🧐
In today's newsletter: an action rogue-like scores 9.0 on MiniReview, Netflix announces several new titles but also closes down large studio, and GamingonPhone’s award show is coming up!
🎮 Netflix reportedly shuts down its ambitious AAA studio without a single game release
Ambitions were high when Netflix launched its California-based AAA games studio “Team Blue” back in 2022. The idea was that the team would work on large multi-platform games based on new original IP.
But as of last week, the studio has now been closed completely. And with it, the plans of a cross-platform Netflix game seem to be gone.
With that said, Netflix seems to still invest heavily in new mobile games, with titles launching every month - including the upcoming Roller Coaster Tycoon Touch and Monument Valley 3.
I personally think Netflix will continue releasing mobile games as part of their long-term strategy, but the closure of their AAA studio does bring into question how committed they actually are.
