In the land of the “Epic vs Google” lawsuit, it’s Christmas EVERY SINGLE DAY🎄
At least that’s how it feels when spicy new gifts details about how both Google and Epic operate are revealed every week.
It turns out Google offered Epic $147m to release (and keep) Fortnite on Google Play. Epic declined, but why did Google even make the offer?
Well, in 2018, Epic released Fortnite Mobile directly through its website. And this got Google fired up. Because what if this created a new standard where game publisher would release their games outside of the Google Play ecosystem?
That wouldn’t be good for Google. And so they offered Epic a big chunk of cash as long as they’d keep Fortnite on Google Play until 2021.
Meanwhile, Epic is now arguing that Google simply tried to maintain their monopoly on app distribution. And that’s the lawsuit summarized.
