Is This Really the New Standard for Mobile Games? 😬
PLUS: The Division Resurgence soon opens regional beta testing, Indus has some pretty interesting news, and we run a giveaway for 20 Minutes Till Dawn and other great mobile games.
How about a riddle? This 2013 mobile game broke the internet, reached 90 million downloads, and then just… disappeared. Can you guess which? (the answer is at the end of the email). Hit “reply” to let me know if you’d like more riddles :)
In today’s newsletter: The Division Resurgence is (soon) ready for region beta testing, Indus has some pretty interesting news, and we run a giveaway for 20 Minutes Till Dawn and other great mobile games.
Apple Arcade, Google Play Pass, GameClub, Netflix Games, Halfbrick+, and now….Crunchyroll?
Earlier this week, the anime streaming service announced “Crunchyroll Game Vault” - a curated library of premium games available exclusively to subscribers.
There are only 5 games at launch, including great titles like the casual puzzle game “inbento”. But unfortunately, the old stand-alone version of inbento seems to have been removed so it could become exclusive to Crunchyroll.
And that’s one of the great downsides of this subscription trend that is slowly taking over the industry: games that used to be stand-alone are now locked behind subscriptions.
I’m glad to see more games without ads and in-app purchases, but I honestly doubt there is enough demand for all these services?
With that said, I’m sure existing Crunchyroll fans appreciate being able to grab a couple of free high-quality games.
