China to ban daily login rewards in mobile games 😮

🎮 Top Story: China might ban daily rewards and “top-up” bonuses in all games

Just before Christmas, China revealed a draft of a new regulation aimed at limiting excessive spending in games (both mobile and PC).

If it gets implemented, the new regulation will likely:

• Ban daily login bonuses and rewards, first-time top-up bonuses, and cumulative rewards for buying in-app purchases.

• Require all games to limit how much money players can spend.

This could make systems like Battle Passes, where you play a lot to gain better rewards, illegal in China. As a result, China’s largest games company, Tencent, saw its stock prices drop 16% as investors now fear they won’t be able to monetize as well.

To be honest, mobile gaming would likely improve a lot if similar rules were implemented in the rest of the world…
